The half mile of park under the Metrorail between the Miami River and SW 13th Street opened in February 2021 as a short strip with a basketball court and a butterfly garden. This fall it has a calendar most days of the week: Tuesday runs, Thursday evening yoga, Saturday morning yoga, a Saturday market, Sunday workouts and a handful of evening classes. In December it should take on a second job. According to the Miami Herald, construction on the full Underline is expected to wrap up by then, which would make Brickell the northern end of a continuous 10-mile park that runs to Dadeland South.
A Week Under the Tracks, Starting Tonight
This post goes up on Thursday, October 22. Here is what the regular schedule looks like from that evening on, with every session free.
| Day | What | Where | Time |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuesday | Brickell Run Club | Starts at Fortune International, 1300 Brickell Ave. | 7 p.m. |
| Thursday | UYoga | Vizcaya Station Plaza | 7 to 8 p.m. |
| Saturday | UYoga | Listed at Urban Gym and at Inter Stage | 9 to 10 a.m. |
| Saturday | The Underline Market | SW 1st Ave. | See note below |
| 1st and 3rd Sundays | HIIT & RUN | Urban Gym | 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. |
The Miami Downtown Development Authority lists the Brickell Run Club as a weekly Tuesday run, so the next one after publication falls on October 27. The Underline lists Thursday yoga at Vizcaya Station Plaza on October 22 and October 29. HIIT & RUN is 30 minutes of high-intensity intervals and then a group run, and it meets on the first and third Sundays of the month. That puts the next two sessions on November 1 and November 15.
The market's scheduled Saturdays are October 24 and 31, November 7, 14, 21 and 28, and December 5 and 12. Check the hours before you go. On the market's own Eventeny page, the fall dates are listed as 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., while the vendor terms on the same page say 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. If you're heading over late in the afternoon, confirm with the organizer first.
Each Room Under the Tracks Has a Job
The schedule works because Phase 1 was built as a row of distinct "rooms" instead of one long lawn. Each one suits a different kind of programming. From the river heading south:
- River Room, from the Miami River to SW 7th Street. A riverfront lawn and garden with butterfly plantings, a public sculpture and room for dogs and their owners.
- Urban Gym, from SW 7th to SW 8th Streets. A fenced flex court, a mini soccer pitch, body-weight equipment, a running track, seating and public art. This is where HIIT & RUN and Saturday yoga are listed.
- The Promenade, from SW 8th Street to the Brickell Metrorail station. Bike and walking paths, game tables and a 50-foot communal dining table.
- Inter Stage, at SW 8th Street and SW 1st Avenue. The performance space, with a canopy and a digital community screen.
- Oolite Room, from SW 11th to SW 13th Streets. Oolite rock bluffs, butterfly gardens, boulder seating and a mural.
South of SW 13th Street, Phase 2 opened in April 2024 and added 2.14 miles through the Roads, Shenandoah and Silver Bluff to SW 19th Avenue. Two Phase 2 spots show up on the fall calendar. The Hammock Playground, at SW 15th Street and SW 1st Avenue, is a nature-themed children's play area planted with native landscaping. Vizcaya Station Plaza is a lit, landscaped plaza next to the Metrorail station with seating and space for events.
The calendar follows the layout. Workouts land at Urban Gym because that's where the court and track are, classes and music go under the Inter Stage canopy, and Thursday evening yoga moves south to the plaza built for gatherings.
The One-Off Dates Worth Saving
Beyond the weekly sessions, these dated events are listed on the Brickell and Phase 2 stretches between now and November 18:
- October 28, 7 to 8 p.m. UDance Konpa at Inter Stage.
- October 30, noon to 3 p.m. The Levitt BLOC Miami Music Series at Urban Gym, with free live music, food vendors and community pop-ups. No lineup has been announced.
- November 4, 6:30 to 9 p.m. A Pride Run listed on The Underline's Hammock Playground page.
- November 18, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Walking with a Purpose at the Hammock Playground.
The concert on October 30 is a Friday, and it runs over the lunch hour. Someone who works near Brickell station could make it there and back on foot.
December Changes How Far the Trail Goes
Until this year, a run or ride heading south from the Brickell Backyard came to the end of finished trail at SW 19th Avenue. That's changing piece by piece. In July the Miami Herald reported that the southernmost 1.2 miles, from the Dadeland South Metrorail station to SW 80th Street in South Miami, had opened. The paper also reported that a stretch through Coral Gables north of LeJeune Road to SW 27th Avenue and Coconut Grove had opened earlier in 2026 and "already connects all the way to the river." That stretch includes Chewy Bark Park, the Coral Gables dog park the Herald described as instantly popular.
That leaves the middle, the section in Coral Gables along the University of Miami. The same July story said this piece will have some of the Underline's most elaborate features. In its October 3 report, the Herald said the whole project is expected to wrap up by December, years ahead of the original schedule thanks to a substantial federal grant. December is a projection, not a ribbon-cutting date. But once that section is done, the Oolite Room becomes the start of a continuous route through the Grove and the Gables, past the Coconut Grove and Coral Gables stations, all the way to Dadeland.
The Herald's July story also noted some rough spots that a finished trail won't fix right away. Both Dadeland Metrorail stations and the Douglas Road station are under extensive renovation, expansion or redevelopment, and trail connections through them are "sketchy or missing altogether." At Dadeland North, signs tell cyclists to dismount and walk a tenth of a mile through the station. Anyone planning a long ride south from Brickell should expect to slow down at those stops.
The Programming Has an Operating Bill
The Herald's October 3 report says annual operating costs are expected to be about $9.5 million once the entire trail is complete. Coral Gables commissioners voted unanimously to put $500,000 toward operations and maintenance for fiscal year 2027, plus a requested $180,000 for fiscal year 2026, and the city got a seat on the Underline Conservancy board as part of the deal. Miami-Dade County has agreed to provide several million dollars a year in operating funds for three years, with the amount tapering down each year. Miami and South Miami are contributing too, and Friends of the Underline has set a goal of covering 60% of operating costs next year through private donors and sponsorships.
For a Brickell resident, that means the free yoga, the concert and the Sunday workouts are now part of a budget negotiated among the county, three cities and private donors.
What's Opening Along South Miami Avenue
Two restaurant openings this fall sit a few blocks east of the Backyard, along South Miami Avenue.
Granado's, at 1250 S. Miami Ave., was announced in Miami New Times for an October 2 opening, with Miami-style smash burgers, loaded fries, soft serve, DJs and late-night hours. The Infatuation's October 8 roundup of new openings includes it at the same address. Check its current hours before you plan a post-run burger around it.
Uchibā is slated to open in November at 900 S. Miami Ave., Space 185. The Infatuation lists yakitori, bao and sashimi on the menu. The Miami Herald describes it as an izakaya-inspired cocktail bar and sushi concept from chef Tyson Cole, and its first Florida location. If it opens on schedule, it will be a short walk from Inter Stage on the Thursday and Saturday evenings when classes are running.
The summer version of this neighborhood, built around World Cup watch nights, is in our Brickell summer 2026 guide. The fall version starts under the tracks.
As the Underline nears completion, how close a building sits to the Brickell Backyard and its rooms becomes a real part of daily life there. JJABREU Group can walk you through which Brickell towers sit within a few blocks of the trail and what that access looks like from each address. Schedule a Private Consultation and we'll start with the Brickell buildings closest to the river end.
